Introduction

MacDough College of Professional Studies (MCPS) is committed to providing fair, transparent and consistent refund and cancellation arrangements for all learners. This policy explains your rights and responsibilities when cancelling an enrolment or requesting a refund.

This policy should be read alongside our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.

Cancelling Before Your Course Starts

If you enrol on a course and decide to cancel before your course begins, you should notify the College in writing as soon as possible by emailing info@macdoughcollege.org.uk.

Where applicable, refunds will be processed after deducting any administrative costs or non-refundable fees that were clearly communicated before enrolment.

UK Consumer Cooling-Off Rights

Where you purchase a course online as a consumer, you may have the right to cancel your enrolment within 14 days of purchase under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

If you request immediate access to learning materials, online resources, induction activities or course content during this 14-day period, you acknowledge that your cancellation rights may be reduced or end once the service has begun, in accordance with UK consumer law.

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights.

Refund Eligibility

Refund requests will be considered where:

  • A learner cancels within any applicable statutory cooling-off period.
  • The College is unable to deliver the course for reasons within its control.
  • A course is cancelled by the College and no suitable alternative is available.
  • Exceptional personal circumstances are accepted by the College following review.

Each request is assessed individually.

Situations Where Refunds May Not Be Available

Refunds may not normally be granted where:

  • Learning materials have already been accessed or downloaded.
  • Teaching, tutoring or assessment has commenced.
  • The learner withdraws after the course has started.
  • The learner has been removed for misconduct or breach of College policies.
  • Incorrect information provided by the learner results in withdrawal or refusal of admission.

Instalment Payments

Where learners choose an approved instalment plan, they remain responsible for paying all agreed instalments unless the College confirms otherwise in writing.

Failure to make scheduled payments may result in suspension of learning access, assessments, tutor support or certification until outstanding balances are settled.

Course Deferrals

In some circumstances, learners may request to defer their studies to a later intake instead of cancelling.

Deferral requests will be considered individually and are subject to programme availability and approval by the College.

Transfers Between Courses

Requests to transfer from one course to another may be approved where suitable programmes are available.

Additional fees may apply if the new course has a higher tuition fee.

All refund requests must be submitted in writing to:

  • Your full name
  • Course title
  • Reason for the request
  • Supporting evidence where applicable

The College aims to acknowledge refund requests promptly and communicate its decision as soon as reasonably practicable.

Approved refunds will normally be returned using the original payment method where possible.

Exceptional Circumstances

The College recognises that serious illness, bereavement or other exceptional circumstances may affect a learner’s ability to continue their studies.

Supporting evidence may be requested before a decision is made.

Changes to this Policy

MacDough College of Professional Studies reserves the right to amend this policy where required by changes in legislation, regulatory guidance or operational requirements.
